Benefits of Outdoor Education
Our approach to education emphasizes and encourages hands-on learning. We facilitate the learning process by creating situations which guide students to interact with one other and the environment around them.
We adopt the ‘challenge by choice’ approach to learning and development. Students are encouraged to try new things and broaden their personal boundaries in safe and supportive settings. We strive to ensure that each student comes away from our programs having learned something new, as an individual, and also how to work positively in a group.
By participating in our outdoor education programs students develop;
- Self awareness and self confidence through new challenges and situations which expand personal boundaries in achievable ways.
- Physical fitness and positive lifestyle choices through the introduction and training in exciting outdoor activities.
- Cultural awareness and understanding through interactions with local people in the communities where our programs are run and also through interaction with their fellow international students.
- Connection to nature through first hand experiences and discoveries of the natural world.
- Empathy and compassion for all living things through service projects which help students to become more involved with communities and the environment.
- Teamwork and leadershipskills by learning to work together in a group setting and developing communication skills, cooperation, trust, leadership, planning and time management.
- Outdoor and survival skills by learning about basic needs and how to provide for these in an outdoor setting.
