Other aspect of our environmental trips which we can incorporate into a day out can include:

  • Stream Study and Clean Up – Explore the habitat and characteristics of streams in upper, middle and lower sections. Learn to use basic instruments and techniques for measuring and monitoring streams.
  • Agriculture and Land Use Patterns Study – Compare aerial photographs, maps and other historical documents to fieldtrip observations. Learn mapping skills as well as discover how changes in land use affect us and the environment.
  • Mangrove Study – Learn first hand about mangrove habitats, plant characteristics and special adaptations of mangroves, as well as marine, terrestrial and inter-tidal life supported by the mangrove ecosystem.
  • Marine Habitats and Coral Reef Study – Study marine habitats ranging from rocky shores to coral reefs. Explore corals and marine life first hand on coastal walks, aquaculture farm visits and snorkeling excursions.

  • Tree Planting and Forestry Study – Discover native, non-native and invasive species and threats to the forest habitat. Get involved in greening managed forest areas through planting, fertilizing, weeding, watering and fire break clearing.
  • Geology Study – Hong Kong is rich in areas ideal for geological studies which are accessible by hiking, boating and sea kayaking. On our geology trips we feature studies of rock landforms, volcanic rocks, granites, dykes, veins, sedimentary rocks, weathering and unique coastal features.
  • Organic Farming – students learn about organic farming methods, history, benefits and the ideology behind the organic movement. They will also have the opportunity to get "hands-on" involvement with the daily operations of the farm, as well as cook and eat the organic foods.
  • Fish Farm Visit – students visit a local fish farm and learn about how the fish farming industry supports the demand for fish in Hong Kong (from sea to table), the costs and benefits to the environment, the effects of changes in the industry in recent years and other issues which effect the industry and us as consumers.
